Stardate:2406.10.06 (Shipping Trawler Archimedes - Bridge – CMO - Lt. [Dr.] BigWill Kinkaid - 1157) After the brief and supportive conversation with Lt. Cmdr Gideon, Kinkaid still had his attention fixated on the viewscreen where Captain Sash and Commander Troi were relaying their ship’s status and updated situation reports. Kinkaid was in a daze still when he heard the voice of Commander Troi calling his name. "Doctor Kincaid." She said. The mind set of Kinkaid return to normal reality when Troi called out his name for a second time. "Doctor Kincaid,” Troi said in an authoritative way. Kinkaid responded as if he heard his name for the first time, "Aye, Ma'am." Commander Troi, now had Kinkaid's attention, continued by giving him his instructions. "You will make preparations to go back to the Nimitz now, as they need you worse than we do." Troi said. Kinkaid's medical first response frame of mind returned to full alert mode. "Aye, Commander, enroute to the transporter room." With that said, Kinkaid was dismissed by Commander Troi as she returned her attention back to Captain Sash. (Reply anyone, if you want to.) (reply Troi) Sash realized he'd been on warrior mode had not relented even now. How easy it was to fall back on old habits. he was keeping everyone at adistance, including Kestra. He could tell that his lack of response cut her. "Oh, and Kestra," he added, being a little informal, "I'm glad to see that you're alright. You and your crew did a great job. Sash out." The screen went blank and he smiled at the view of the trawler. They had managed to get their goal. But at such a price. The smile disapeared as Sash took a moment of solice over the loss of his opponent. How he hated war. The bustle of ships businessbrought his back to the present. It was a certainty that he would follow that old Earth phrase, and remember the Alamo. Sash got up and headed for the turbo lift. He stopped by the counselor. "Mr Harrison," he said, "walk with me a while." (reply Harrison) "Ensign Kateb, you have the bridge. I need to take a tour of the ship." With that he and Harrison stepped onto the turbo lift. "Ensign," he began, "I want you to start preparing for the backlash of this battle. I know that it's hard on the crew to fight and destroy one of our own. I'd like you to set up a series of meetings with the crew and make sure that they are not over-burdened with guilt." (reply Harrison) "Thank you." Sash hesitated for a moment. Then thought better of what he was about to say. The turbo lift came to a halt and the door opened. Sash stepped half out and half in. "By the way, i just want to say how impressed I was at your performance during this ordeal. Good work Ensign." The door closed and Sash headed for engineering. He turned upon stepping on the pad and looked at the young transporter technician. Kinkaid remember that it was not too long ago when he first stepped on to the USS Nimitz from the Academy on how young he was and scared to borderline nervousness to be sure. She was thinking of how the crew and Sash had come through the battle mentally. She figured that Sash would mourn the death of so many Starfleet personnel, just like her, in a battle that should never have happened. She shook herself back to the present as the orders from Sash came back to her. "Lt. Saleke, I want all reports on a PADD for me to take to the Nimitz in the morning." She said as she stood up and turned to him. "You did a commentable job in your first assignment in a command situation, it will not go unnoticed." She said with a wink. "Commander Gideon, you will be accompanying me in the morning early to meet the captain before the meeting. Your help in this unfortunate situation will also not go unnoticed. I am going to ask Captain Sash to have a memorial for the crew of the Alamo and for any that we have lost." She said to Gideon as she stepped up to him to place a hand on his shoulder to emphasize her feelings. "Lt. Saleke, ensure that Mr. Slytherwald is not having any problems gathering enough engineers to head to the Nimitz." She said as she was walking to the ready room, stopping at the door to turn back to face the bridge. "Commander Gideon, you have the bridge." she paused for a thought as she looked at everyone on the bridge, "I know that it was not a mission that we wanted to be on, but, you all did your jobs commandably." she then turned and walked through the door. Although he expected nothing else from his old friend, after the battle the crew had been understandably on edge. The communication from the Nimitz had served to remind everyone the price they had paid to complete their mission. The exterior of the ship was covered in burn marks and smashed holes in the hull of the ship. Every now and again it was possible to see the flicker of the containment force fields. Edward did not know the Nimitz well and did not know her crew, this lead him to be more sorrowful for the crew and friends he had lost at the Alamo. It would seem in his life there was not much else but death. He out lived most of his human friends and most other species as well. It had been accepted by his race that they would live in the end alone. The CO of the Nimitz Captain Sash had requested his presence on the ship before the staff meeting on the Nimitz. It was probably to figure out what to do with him. It was a position that Edward did not envy. He had come to the conclusion that he would proberly see the rest of this conflict from either a prison cell or some unimportant position. It was just a matter of preparing for that eventuality. Kestra gave her orders and then began walking towards the ready room; her words had been kind on the loss of the Alamo crew. However words was not going to reverse the unnecessary death of so many of his friends. The 52nd fleet was on the edge of the abyss; they had no option left but to fight back against the wall. This was going to lead to many more deaths before the end of this; the question was going to be how much of their soul would be left after so much killing? Kestra spoke once more as she closed on the ready room door, leaving him in charge of the bridge. Edward paused for a moment wondering if he had heard correctly, moving to the command chair he nodded and then stood over it not sitting. His body was still feeling numb over the loss of so many lives. However Kestra had charged him with a duty and he was going to live up to it. "Step down from red alert, find away to purge the transporter buffer of all those warheads. Besides that continue repairs people, concentrate of shields and sensors. If we can spot them we could hide for days in the asteroid field," Edward turned to look at the seat again and then lowered himself into it slowly. It was more comfortable then was to be expected, however it was seldom comfort to the numbness of his body and mind. Commander Gideon the reason for his emotional imbalance appeared to have been rooted out. After a short conversation with Captain Sash Kestra turned to him and spoke. "Lt. [Dr.] BigWill Kinkaid - 1209) The transporter chief received the message from the bridge that the Chief Medical Officer was returning back to the Nimitz from the trawler Archimedes and to have transporter room #2 ready to receive him. Despite the heavy charred room, the chief made the necessary adjustments and repairs to the power relays for the transporter buffers and was ready to energize. The chief moved his hand across his console, which activated the transporter beam. The beam was slowly losing power causing a brief instability in the pattern buffers. The chief boosted the signal feed to compensate the power drain. The beam materialized a humanoid male in a Starfleet medical uniform. Kinkaid could sense his body finally coming together as the beam faded from the pad. Kinkaid stepped off the transporter pad and said, "Lt. BigWill Kinkaid request permission to come aboard." A computerized voice recognized his voice and replied. [Permission granted, Welcome aboard Doctor Kinkaid.] Kinkaid looked around and he could see that the interior was far worst than the outer hull of the ship. He went to the transporter chief, who was coughing slightly wearing a charred uniform as if he been fighting plasma fires for most of the day and said, "Are you all right you seem to be congested?" The chief tried to respond, but started to cough heavily and to catch his breathe at the same time. Kinkaid opened his medical kit and retrieved a hypospray. He placed the hypospray against the chief's neck and adminstered a quick dose. The first-aid was what the chief needed. Kinkaid had a relieved expression on his face as he continued to visually scan the room. The good doctor was about to exit, but turned around for a brief moment and said, "Chief, if your coughing returns, I need you to report to Sickbay for further treatment for smoke inhalation." The chief looked at Kinkaid and knodded in agreement. Kinkaid then proceed out of the transporter room. So far the Vulcan had proved to be a very interesting character, the debate they had held on the bridge of the trawler had been most interested if a bit heated. In a way the Vulcan had earned a lot of kudos in Edward’s book, his professionalism was second to none. Edward did not have much to do but sit and stare out the view screen, or more precisely what was left of the view screen. The battle damage the Archimedes had received had produced burn marks up the right hand side of the view screen and a majority of the consoles had either been blown out or were fluxuating with the power that was being produced. The voice that came from behind his seat allowed his finally to use the chairs power. Rotating around he looked at the officer in the back of the bridge. He figured that Captain Sash had implied that he ought to start his proper duties now. Besides, the counsellor reasoned, that they wouldn't need anyone monitoring space dust at the moment! He sat down at his desk and leant back in his chair. Letting out a long sigh, he closed his eyes and thought for a while. In his mind he saw John Wilson's body, the explosions on the bridge as the Nimitz had jerked forward, the Alamo's destruction. What was he doing here? He wasn't a soldier, he was a counsellor. He had joined starfleet in the hopes of meeting strange new races and helping people. His father had brought him up with a strong sense of sadness when a life was lost. And yet, he had just sat through a battle and watched...yes, that was all he had done, watched...watched as crewmates died around him and fellow Starfleet officers had been killed. Perhaps murdered? All for some anti-matter? It wasn't right. Then again, he reasoned, he wasn't entirely sure what was going on. Those on the Alamo may have deserved death and... no, he didn't believe that. No one deserved death. His sense of honour sank in. He had sworn an oath to obey his commanding officer. Captain Sash certainly didn't seem like a murderer - Captain Le Bleu had. This loss of life was a problem with war. Yes. That was what Harrison had landed himself in. This was a war. Doubtless the crew felt the same as he did. Probably worse, having been together for so long. He was still the 'newboy' of the Nimitz. Well, he had a job to do. Time to do it. The reflection time had let out a lot of his pent-up emotions, and enabled him to concentrate on prioritising the list of the senior staff for counselling. As he had planned all along, Dr Kirien was at the top of the list, and he had placed Captain Sash at the bottom. When he came to report how the crew were feeling, he would offer to talk to the Captain to see how he was doing. The destruction of the Alamo had visibly taken a toll on his commanding officer - he had not enjoyed taking a fellow captain's life, or the life of his crew. He jotted a few notes down on a PADD among his list, slipped the PADD into his pocket and stood. First he would go and seek out Dr Kirien. As he walked to the turbolift, he felt a slight awkwardness about what he was about to do. He had no idea how she would react when he offered to talk to her about the loss of her...what was the term?... Imzadi. She would no doubt be beyond distraught. She might even be busy working, hoping to take her mind off it, so he would only be getting in the way of the running of Sickbay. Still, this awkwardness was part of a counsellor's job! Within a few moments he was at the doors of sickbay. ~Okay, John~ he told himself ~THIS is why you're in Starfleet~ He stepped forward, the doors slid open and he saw Doctor Kincaid standing next to a visibly stressed Dr Kirien. "Doctor Kirien," he greeted politely, "You wished to speak to me? How can I help?" Both he and Kirien knew what they were to speak of, but he had to ease the conversation in formally. (reply Kirien) "Okay," he said, his voice calm, emotionless, "Would you prefer to talk somewhere more private?" (reply Kirien) (posted by James Batchelor) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz – Sickbay – CMO - Lt. [Dr.] BigWill Kinkaid - 1221) After seeing the two crewmen with possibly broken bones being assisted by one of the nurses enter sickbay, Kinkaid had a strange feeling as if a foresight was coming to him on what Kirien was going to say next due to her sudden shift in personality which was starting to become obvious as if she have something on her mind. Kirien started to finished her thought from before, but said, "I... I keep having moments of vulcanish calm and logic, but then they dissolve into states of intense emotion. As a Counsellor, I wonder if I am coming down with a case of split personalities." Kinkaid was wondering if Kirien "vulcanish" condition was the result of Lt. Saleke having another one of his episodes on the trawler Archimedes in which Saleke maybe trying to calm and control the "emotional rift" through telepathic means to whoever is having a crisis like for the moment Kirien. Kinkaid pondered the notion for a moment as Kirien continued. "When the Counsellor is released, I will want to talk with him." Kirien started to take on, for the second time while in his presence, 'the coolish air of a Vulcan'. "I fear that some of it is the loss of the bond with my Imzadi. Tell me, Doctor, do you know of a telepath on board who can help with that ?" Kinkaid sat down at his desk and accessed the crews medical logs from his database to assist Kirien in her need of help. The filtering of the logs came up with a few possible names to the query inputted. Commander Kestra Troi; the ship's schoolteacher - Katie Troi; and Kirien's children: Gabriella and Elizabeth. Kinkaid recited the names to Kirien. (Reply ACMO, Dr. Kirien) Then Kinkaid said, "I know this may be a stretch but Lt. Saleke name also came up. He may be able to help you through the miracles of the Vulcan meld with the Captain's permission and your williness, of course. It's a risky procedure, but it may explain a lot and probably contain the strain you are going through. But first, let's see if Counsellor Harrison can spare a moment or two to see you." Cithy Dumas and Captain Devan Sash, 2000) Cithy woke up from a nightmare of the replay of Galk throwing the knife and it hitting her, over and over again. She had felt the touch at some point of a telepath, who soothed away the nightmares for a moment, but when the touch left, the nightmares came back. "Is she awake, Dr. Kirien?" A masculine voice asked. The feminine, and Cithy recognized it as the telepath who soothed the nightmares, spoke an affirmative. "The poison used on her was quite common, but very virulent, she's likely to be a bit disoriented." The feminine voice spoke, keeping a light touch on her thoughts. Cithy opened her eyes, using her antennas to sniff the air. "Who are you?" Cithy managed to croak out, her eyes focusing on the female, who had to be a Betazoid. Why that mattered right now, Kai didn't know, but it did. "You call yourself Kai?" Michaella asked, her eyebrows rising. "It is a lovely name and nothing to be ashamed of. My name is Michaella Kirien, and I'm one of the doctors on the Nimitz. This is Devan Sash, the Captain." Michaella said, making introductions. "Captain Sash wanted to talk with you as soon as you were up to it. If you don't think you are, and I know how much things hurt right now, he can go away and come back later." And Michaella shot the Captain a look that said he would if she said so. "I can. " Michaella nodded. "I'll be in my office then, I'm going to maintain a light link with you, ok? I will mostly be monitoring your energy levels, and your pain. Not what the two of you talk about." And Michaella leaned closer to Kai. "I was and still am a Counsellor too, Kai. I promise you can trust me." And with that Michaella left. Kai turned her antenna, and eventually her face to look the Captain over. He was tall and regal, and looked exhausted. "Alamo?" She managed to choke out, already knowing the answer. Sash watched as Michaella went into her office. He didn't speak until the door was closed. He had been waiting a while to talk to Dumas, and knew that this was going to be the hardest part. He knew she would feel responsible, and she would be partly right. She had turned her back on her alleigances in order to do what was right. And he owed her their life, most likely. "I'm sorry Lt., but Captain LaBeau gave us very little choice." Kai closed her eyes against the pain that the memory evoked. The human was genuinely remorseful, she could taste that. "Understand." She gasped out, her throat muscles sore and bruised. "Rick not say it was this hard." She said referring to Richard Lee, the one who had recruited her. "Did best I could. Not good enough." As she talked, her words became more coherant. "Antimatter?" Hoping that it wasn't all in vain. "The shipment is safe," Sash asured her, so that all that happened was not in vain. "In no small measure, thanks to you. As for you young lady," Sash sat on the edge of the biobed, "you gave us quite a scare there." Sash turned away from her for a moment and then faced her. "I want to apologize Lt. Dumas. We got you as soon as we could, I only wish it could have been before all this." He motioned to the sickbay. "Do you require anything?" "No.. Doctor make things easier. She make the nightmares stop." Kai noticed that the way the Captain acted was very paternal, very comforting. "Thank you, I did not want to die." She finished looking down at her hands. "I am not a good Andorian, I am a coward, Captain. A rather large coward. I would not have done it if Rick did not promise that I would be safe. What does that say about my morals?" She looked up at the Captain. "Henri guided my career, told me I would make a good officer with time. He requested me specifically for this assignment. He trusted me. What does that say about the value of my friendship? I still find it hard to reconcile the Henri that was almost my father with the monster that we both knew he was." Sash looked into the Andrian's eyes. He smiled as her antannae seemed to focus on him all by themselves. "Lt," he began, then paused. "Cithy, don't ever doubt yourself. What you did today was one of the bravest I've ever seen. You went against all you knew, and trusted in your belief values. You took a stand on high moral ground in spite of your personal feelings, knowing full well you were going against those you considered to be allies, or even friends. i can't even begin to fathom the courage that took." He reached out and stroked the lock of white hair that had fallen across her face. "Something happened to Captain LaBeau over the years. He began to believe that the ends justified the means, any means that he saw fit. I'd like to believe that we are above that. That we hold a moral standard for others to live up to. It might sound high and mighty, but it's what I believe. And I think my crew does as well. And I would be honored if you'd consider yourself one of them." She grinned for a moment. "Rick promised me I would still have a job aboard whatever ship rescued me, so I'd have to say you have orders on that, Mr. Sash. DO you really want me ? How can you be assured that my loyalties won't turn again at the first available opportunity? How can you trust me?" She shook her head, her antenna not moving. "I don't trust me." Then she smiled slightly. "The name is not Si-thee - it's KI - thee - or as my friends call me Kai. If I still have any of those left." And with that the threatened tears did fall. Sash nodded for a moment understanding her reservation. "Kai? I have not met nor talked to this Rick. And if there is one thing you should know about me off the top, I tend to say what I mean to say, irregardless of how it makes me look. I would not put out my hand to you in friendship, if I didn't mean it." Then he smiled at the look on her face. "And yes, I have extended a hand in friendship. Anyone who willingly puts their life on the line, to save others is not only worthy of freindship, but also of a certain amount of trust. Even if you have trouble rusting yourself, I feel I can trust you. And I'm a pretty good judge of character, if I do say so myself. Even if you have no other friend in the universe, know that I will be there for you." "That seems contrary to what I know of Starfleet Captains. Very well, I will take you up on this offer of friendship." And that seemed to settle her mind a bit. "How did you know to find me if you did not talk with Rick?" She asked, curiously. "I recieved and emergency cominique from Admiral LoDona telling me that we had an "ally" on board the Alamo, and I was to do whatever it took to retriieve you. I just assumed that it was you who saved our bacon." Then she got very quiet. "The telepath, Kirien, seems sad, Captain. Did anyone die?" She needed to know. Sash nodded silently. "Unfortunately yes. Her Imzadi, Lt. Commander Wilson, was killed in the initial attack. She's been taking it hard. I really haven't had a chance to talk with her or her children yet." Sash could feel the repressed sadness wellup in him and pushed it back down again. No time for that now. The ships needs a strong captain. She looked startled. "Satan told you to rescue me? The great evil one?" Then she flushed, for letting her mouth run on ahead of her. "Do you know the great evil one? The bringer of devestation? That's what the media calls him, you know. He who is going to bring about the downfall of the Federation. The great dictator. Satan's lovechilde." And with that one she did giggle. Sash smiled as well. "I'm not sure that the Admiral has heard that one, but I am sure he knows that he's not well thought of on the counsel. I'm also sure that there are some on our side who might agree with the description. But if there's one thing he's not is a dictator. We all had the choice to return to the Federation regular. We are here by our own choices, and nobody elses." He liked the sound of Dumas' laugh. It was so free and child like. Of course, to him, everyone often seemed that way. In a way, it reminded him of his late wife. He took hold of her hand and put his other hand on top. "I don't want to over stay my welcome, but I would like to have an opportunity to get to know you better. Perhaps we can have dinner once you get out of here and settled in." Kai nodded, suddenly feeling sleepy again, as Michaella glided out of her office, to catch Cithy as she fell backwards in pain. "Easy girl" Michaella whispered, touching a sedative to the side of her neck. ::Sleep, no nightmares...:: Michaella sent into her mind. ::Sleep and heal Kai. You are safe.:: As Kai's eyes fluttered shut, MIchaella turned to her friend and almost began to cry. "I don't know if you have time for me right now, but I need a friend to talk with and to cry on his shoulder." "For you." Sash smiled and put his arm around her, "I'll make the time." (reply none) (posted by Al Muir and Melinda Martin) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz- Sickbay- CO & ACMO- Captain Ssh and Dr Kirien-2020) He led her back to her office as he felt her body began to relax. By the time they were at her desk he was practically carrying her. Sash tried to lower her to her chair, but she clung on to him as if her life depended on it. They ended up on the small couch in her office, him holding her. She was turned into his arms, just sobbing quietly. Her entire body shook with the sobs and she gave in to the grief she'd been pushing off for so long. "We never broke the bond." She managed to get out. "I feel so broken right now, like part of me is gone, and it is. And I don't know what to do about it. And I don't want to face the girls. I can't take their grief as well as my own. Not when I'm saw raw. I'm a bad mother." She whispered the last bit. Sash held her silently, letting her get her feelings out. He stroked her hair gently and and listened attentively. But he couldn't let her denigrate herself like that. "Now, now," he admonished,"you are not a bad mother. I understand your feelings. I don't how I would have reacted if only my wife had died. But give yourself time to grieve, and know that you still have people who care about you." He thought for a moment. "I think what you need is the girls support around you. A burden shared is a lighter load. If you like, I can be there when you tell them." Michaella shook her head. "I know Beth knows... but Ella..she probably doesn't. What do I tell them ? How do you tell your daughters that their father, who they just rediscovered, is gone forever? At least with the split we were taking they would still have him. Beth especially..she is so like John it's incredible." And she looked up from Sash's arms. "And there is something else. I feel... a bond..to something that isn't here. I'm afraid for who I think the other end of the bond is." She realized that she was rambling. "There are just moments of extreme calm, almost vulcan. And I think it's Saleke. Have you heard from him ?" "Saleke?" Now Sash's curiosity was piqued. but he knew better than to ask about a private matter. "Saleke is still on board the trawler. No, I haven't heard from him lately though. Why would you be afraid for Saleke?" Michaella shook her head, sniffling. "He's the only vulcan I know. And we had... we did a mind meld a few days ago...after..." She couldn't quite bring herself to say it. "We did it in order to allow me to function properly for this mission. Thee are reports of melds between betazoids and vulcans going badly... and I'm worried that if I'm getting moments of his calm, that he must be getting moments of my emotions. I don't know how a vulcan would be able to deal with the intensity of a Betazoid's emotions. Though," She said logically, her voice losing all of it's emotion and becoming cool and aloof, "I suppose that if he were having problems, we would have been contacted by now. It is illogical to assume that he would be getting the backwash of my emotions." Then she looked up at Sash with her eyes wide and afraid. "See what I mean? It's almost like having another person in my head. And I don't mean that a good way, Devan!" Sash chuckled. "I know what you mean. I don't tink I'd appreciate having Saleke running through my mind either, no matter how much I like him. If it will make you feel better I'll contact the Archimedes and check in on him." "Please?" MIchaella asked, looking up still somewhat sad. "It would make me feel better." She snuggled against him, liking the feel of his hard muscular body, it was warm, and moreover, he smelled right. She chuckled at the thoughts that she was having. Part of her was in remorse over the loss of her Imzadi, part of her missed the feel of a man, and part of her wanted to throw him down and straddle him. "It's always amazed me the response that people have to death. They tend to..what is the word that Ella uses as she giggles... shag after being faced with death. I feel sorry for those that do not have a friend to do so with." She said, her face clouding with emotion. Sash wasn't exactly sure how to take that comment. He too, was feeling comfortable with his arms around a woman. There was something about Michaella that intrigued him. Was she so like Nessa? She was, and then she wasn't. She was so much more serious. Yet she had so many of the same doubts about herself. It was as if she were never able to appreciate herself enough. Must be a Betazoid trait. His arms enveloped her and he rubbed her arms. "I've never quite heard it put that way," he said, "but I have seen the phenomonon. Battle, and death, does indeed tend to bring out the need for ... intamacy." He smelled her hair, that still had the faint trace of her perfume, and smiled at what he was picturing in his mind. Then the smile disappeared. As tempting as it was, there was still work to be done, and he was the captain. Others had to be taken care of before his own purile needs. "I think," he said, "after we get some power back to the ship, we should take the girls camping on the holodeck." "Who is Nessa?" Michaella asked, with a smile. "You haven't mentioned her before. I'm sorry, you were thinking of her so loudly, I couldn't help overhear. I really try not to, I get the feeling you don't like it." She said turning in his arms. "As for camping on the holodeck, I don't think they have ever been camping. I know that I haven't been." And then Michaella grinned. "I doubt your needs are purile, Devan. No more so than any other persons." She laughed, her voice like a tinkling bell. "Part of me wonders why you are so nice to me. I don't think that I deserve it. And part of me wonders when it is going to stop. Betazoids tend to be full of insecurities and self-doubt. I think we tend to live too much in our selves and not so much among others. Kind of strange for a race of telepaths, don't you think?" Sash smiled. He saw where Michaela's daughters got their ability to run streams of thought together. "I've always found Betazoids to be a most unusual race. Nessa is Captain Vanyssa Winters or the USS Mystique. I have known her for a very long time, even by my standards. She was my FO when I first came on board the Nimitz. Before she left for her command we ... took our relationship to the next level, if you know what I mean." He saw that she caught his drift as a broad grin grew on her face. "Anyway, it's difficult to seperate my thoughts sometimes. I am uncomfortable having my thoughts under scrutiny. Sometimes it's comforting knowing that someone else knows what I'm thinking. But I like the privacy of my own mind. I've had the wrong people in there before." A resonance of a chilling laugh played in the back of his mind. He shook it off. "As for camping, well, if you've never been, then you simply must. I'll take it easy on you." She shivered. "The contact makes it almost impossible for me to not sense things that are...loud." She said, flushing. "And there is something about you..the contact is as easy as it was with John." She changed the subject gracefully. "Tell me about this camping thing, Captain. It seems...strange to be out doors and in primitive surroundings, though I bet Ella would love it. She's more of a nature person than Beth. Beth would only be interested in it if it included a shuttlecraft." And Michaella began to chuckle. Sash chuckled, glad to have the subject change. "There is something...primitive about camping. But it's more. It shows how you'd be without all this technology we have around us. It takes me back the basics of living, and surviving." He saw the look on Michaela's face and faught the laugh. "Now I don't want you to have that extreme an experience, and it sounds strange to try living in a non-technolgical situation when you're using technology to provide it, but I think you might be surprised at how enjoyable it might be. And Beth might find another outlet for that inventive side in her. Most of the shuttle pilots I know love camping." "But there's no rush. Thnk it over and let me know. We won't be having any holodeck time for a while," he added. "At least, not until we've got all the esential systems back on line." He stood up, "Speaking of which, I really need to get back to the bridge." She went oof as her backrest went away. She tried not to let the loss show on her face...but it was obvious. ~I guess I scared him away~ She thought to herself, feeling somewhat bad at the moment. Sash reached down with a hand and took a firm grip on Michaela's. He helped her to her feet, and looked down at her disappointed face. His eyes softened as he spoke. ~Just like Nesssa.~ "I would like to do nothing more than to spend time talking with you right now. But we both have jobs to do, and as much as I wish I didn't have to go, I do. " He lifted her hands and kissed them gently. "Take care of our new crew member. I think she's a keeper." Michaella nodded. "Only after you eat and sleep, though, Captain." She saw the look on his face. "The Chief Medical Officer of the Starship Nimitz says that the Captain of the Nimitz needs to take at least a two hour nap and eat something with more than one food group of it. And she's willing to make that an order, Captain." Michaella said with a smile. "The Nimitz isn't going to blow up in the next couple of hours, and you need to rest. You've been running on adrenaline for too long now... after all..you aren't a young man anymore." And then she winked. Sash smiled a huge smile, suddenly feeling his age, "Lady, you just said a mouthful." "Well, I have to be official, don't I? When making orders to the CAPTAIN ?" And she giggled and gave him a hug. "You'll do as I say, love?" "Seems I have no choice,"Sash replied. "I'd hate to be put on medical leave. God only knows when my ACMO would release me." He headed for the door. "I'll let you know about Saleke. You let me know how it goes with the girls. Remember, I'm there for you if you need me." He stepped out and the door closed. With a smile Sash headed for his quarters. He wasn't sure if he could sleep, but at least he could lay down for a couple of hours. He rubbed the small of his back. ~I'm getting to old for this.~ (reply none) (posted by Al Muir and Melinda Martin) Stardate:2406.10.06 (USS Nimitz- Captain's Quarters- CO - Captain Ssh -2055) Sash walked into his quarters and looked around. He really hadn't spent much time there recently and it felt like a strange world. He had never been very good about devorating, and most of the niceties in the living room had been provided by others. Nessa, of course, had left her mark in many aspects of his life. He walked over to his desk and picked up the holo-pic that she had given him. It was of the two of them on the Newman. Such a long time ago. He felt every bit of his 60 years. Sash sast down behind the desk and looked at her picture. He could sure use someone to talk to right now. As captain, he believed it was his job to lighten the load of those under him. He had trouble sharing his burdens with them. Sharing a burden was easy advice to give to Michaella. He should really take it himself, but who could he turn to. The new counselor was a great adition to his crew, but it was obvious that he was troubled by this mission already. The last thing he needed was to be worried about his CO's resolve. It was great having Kestra back, but so soon after his... interlude with Nessa, he was not ready to walk that path yet. He felt bad about keeping her at arms length, but things were different now. She was his FO now. What a bizarre twist of fate that was. He wanted to keep things somewhat proffesional, for now. But he also knew that Kestra wouldn't let that last too long. And now Michaella. What was it about Betazoids that attracted them to him. And even him to them. But right now his life just felt so empty. He had no one to talk to. He had no way to relieve himself of this guilt that was continually nagging at him. He had crossed the line. The destruction of the Alamo had made him a war criminal. There was no turning back for him now. He wished that it hadn't come to that. If only LaBeau would have given them another option. And if LaBeau had been in a didfferent ship, would the result had been the same? He wasn't so sure. But he was pretty sure that the other captain would not be feeling this remorse. He supposed that was the difference that kept Sash on the path that he considered to be true. At the end of the day, he could still live with himself, even through the guilt. Guilt was a new sensation to him aswell. As someone born and bred to be a warrior, enhance, mentally aswell as physically, his interactions with Starfleet, especially Nessa, had taught him feelings of remorse for the loss of life. Sash shook himself. This was stupid to sit int he dark perpetuating this feeling. He was ordered to his quarters by Dr. Kirien, but he already knew he wasn't up to sleeping. He needed to get something done. Sash had promised to find out information about Saleke. He smiled at the prospect of he and Michaela. He tapped the console on his desk. (Reply: Captain Sash, any) (Posted by Charles) Stardate:2406.10.60 (USS Nimitz - Bridge - COUNS - Ensign John Harrison - 1159) While he was reading through the diagnostics report on the OPS station, Harrison kept half an ear on Captain Sash "Oh, and Kestra," the CO had added after talking to Commander Troi over on the Trawler, "I'm glad to see that you're alright. You and your crew did a great job. Sash out." Harrison smiled. The battle was over and his commanding officer was doing what all wise leaders do shortly after a conflict; praising his troops. It made sense. After a battle like this, virtually everyone on both the Nimitz and Archimedes would be feeling awful, almost hollow, as the realisation of how many people had lost their lives, even among their enemies, sank in. Even the survivors, though glad to be alive, would feel dramatically changed. The captain seemed to take a moment to himself, presumably to reflect and compose himself. After a while, he got up and headed for the turbo lift. The Captain stopped by the counselor. "Mr Harrison," he said, "walk with me a while." "Certainly, sir," he replied, stepping away from the console and following Sash. The captain told Kateb to take over the bridge and stepped onto the turbo lift, with Harrison one step behind. (USS Nimitz - Turbo lift 1 - COUNS - Ensign John Harrison - 1206) "Main enigineering," the captain ordered the computer, before turning to the counselor. "Ensign," he began, "I want you to start preparing for the backlash of this battle. I know that it's hard on the crew to fight and destroy one of our own. I'd like you to set up a series of meetings with the crew and make sure that they are not over-burdened with guilt." "Of course, sir," Harrison replied. There really was nothing to say, and he had been thinking about it since the relief that the battle was over had wahsed over him, like a cool wave on a scorching beach. "Thank you," the Captain said, remaining silent until the turbo lift came to a halt and the door opened. Sash stepped half out and half in. "By the way, i just want to say how impressed I was at your performance during this ordeal. Good work Ensign." The door closed and Harrison smiled. Praising his crew was certainly an effective tactic for Sash - the counsellor started feeling a lot better. "Deck Eight," he called to the turbolift, "Counselling Department" As the turbolift soared upwards, he began compiling a list of those who would definitely need to see. There was no doubt in his mind that the first of them would have to be Dr. Kirien.
